What makes a t-shirt heavyweight
Fabric weight is measured in gsm — grams per square metre. Standard t-shirts sit around 140–160gsm. Heavyweight tees start around 220gsm and premium streetwear tees go well beyond that. More cotton means a tee that holds its shape, hangs straight and lasts for years. Every MORATO product page lists the fabric and fit.
Why it's worth paying for
- Shape: the shoulders and hem don't twist or curl after washing.
- Opacity: no see-through white tees.
- Drape: the fabric falls straight, so a boxy cut looks deliberate.
- Longevity: fewer, better tees that outlast cheap multipacks.

Frequently asked questions
What gsm is a heavyweight t-shirt?
Roughly 220gsm and up. Standard tees are about 140–160gsm, so a heavyweight tee uses noticeably more cotton.
Do heavyweight t-shirts shrink?
Good heavyweight tees are pre-shrunk. Wash cold, inside out, and avoid hot tumble drying to keep the fit.
Are heavyweight tees too hot for a South African summer?
Dense cotton breathes well. Choose lighter colours and a boxy fit for airflow on hot days.
How fast is delivery?
Free nationwide delivery to your door or a nearby locker. Priority delivery is R109.00.
